Kennedi had a check-up at Primary Children's Hospital yesterday. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with Vesicoureteral Reflux (reflux of the bladder). We went in yesterday and did a voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) and an ultrasound on her kidneys. They were hoping to find that it had improved since the tests 2 years ago, but we found out it has gotten worse and it's doing damage to her kidneys. Every time she has a bladder infection, it scars her kidneys, which means it eats a little away from the outer edge. They told us she needs to have Ureteral Reimplant Surgery to fix her problem. They will go in just below the bikini line and change the way her abnormal ureters connect with her bladder. It's about a 2-3 hour surgery, and she'll have to spend 2 nights in the hospital.
When I told her what was gonna happen, I expected her to be scared or a little nervous, but I should have known.....she is thrilled!! She is so excited to get to be in the hospital for 2 days and get visitors, LOL, she is so funny! Nothing phases this girl, thank goodness.
She is scheduled to have her surgery on February 10th.
Sad! But, it is good that you'll be able to fix the problem, especially before those little boys come. It is pretty cute that she is excited about a hospital stay.
ReplyDeleteBTW, you asked a while ago about Chase's reaction to the baby. Basically, he couldn't care less. He doesn't bug her at all. I've been pleasantly surprised.
Wow! That sounds like quite an ordeal. Poor girl, but so funny she is excited to go! Seriously, I wouldn't mind laying around in a bed for a couple of days and having people wait on me hand and foot either ... sounds kind of great.
ReplyDeleteYIKES! That sounds scary to me but probably sounds like an adventure for her!
ReplyDeleteWow that doesn't sound like fun at all:) I'm sure she is excited to stay in the hospital though. That is always cool when you are little. Good Luck! I'm sure she will do fine.
